Two-night winter camping in the Cascades via skis, far away from the car.
Saturday January 17 - Monday January 19
The Plan:
Saturday: Drive out, ski in, and set up a bomber shelter for two nights.
Sunday: Spend the day skiing around and enjoying the tour with some downhill snow play.
Monday: Ski out, drive home, and, of course, get a burger to fill the empty belly.
I can drive my Subaru. I have a Hillaburg tent for two that is awesome.
Locations – TBD. If you are a ski tourer, please provide input on where to go. I am itching to ski up into the wilderness from a snow park north of Roslyn. Or the Blewett Pass area could be interesting to explore, or possibly the Red Top Mountain area.
This is not a good idea for a first time winter camp. Need to wear nothing natural except for wool. Also, the typical avalanche gear beacon, probe, and shovel are a must.
If you’re interested, call Kevin to discuss objectives. My main objective is to test my new 0-degree sleeping quilt and enjoy the splendor of winter with a lot of reading time during the long winter nights.
