John Williams lead the OC class up Washington yesterday. He had been there on Thursday and snow conditions were soft and difficult at best. But yesterday conditions were better. Yet crossing the bergschrunds on the winter route can be dicey. One of those collapsed after we crossed it on descent and 800 pounds of snow fell into the yawning depths. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful day and the students learned much. Just be aware that snow conditions change rapidly on this mountain and that there are still big snow loads above the chute. To cross the col to the summit safely a solid belay may be needed.
P.S. to Jay. I switched to my other computer and I got logged on automatically and posted without any problems. (?).
