Jay, I was googling Green Mountain and School Rock and I found your comments on the "trail". In case you might be interested I wrote something up some time ago on the subject. Now, I understand, there is a large rock cairn at the lower trailhead. Some of us may take a small group up there for some belay and rappel instruction if and when the weather dries out. Actually I was on Green Mt. today and it wasn't all that bad. Jim...... Anyway, for what it is worth:

Oh yeah, I remember writing that. I think I also refered to that old mine shaft as the Tin Mine but after further investigation I wonder if that is not called the Gold Mine due to its location on Gold Mountain? I believe the Tin Mine is located elsewhere but I might be wrong on that. Last time I was up the GM 6 road I remember seeing a cairn at where I thought the trail was going up to school rock. It is not too far before the green car parts on the side of the road as you described. The only time I tried to find it on my own there was snow on the ground and the brush was very wet so I didn't go very far up it. Perhaps I will try to find it again sometime when I don't have anything better to do. Thanks for the link!

I cannot find that gaging station anymore. I think it must have gotten burried or something.

The trail to School Rock follows a small creek bed for the first part. It is on the left not long after getting to the first beaver pond.

Yep, you are correct. A couple of years ago in a large storm there was a lot of deposition and debris washed down the river and the gauging station is almost impossible to see. There is a culvert in the road above it, and last year when I taught the Navigation class for the OC class I flagged a tree near the Gauging station. My reading there was 47deg 33.341' and -122deg 48.669'
