Amy is currently working on her AA in Human Services at Olympic College. She has always been interested in the environment, and as such has studied environmental biology with Professor Amy Lawrence. A requirement of the class was environmental service work in the local area, which led her to Salmon Docent Training and Salmon Days volunteering.
As salmon hold ecological, commercial, and cultural significance in the Pacific Northwest, Kitsap county is doing their part to support the increase in the salmon population by improving water flow through culverts expansion and habitat restoration.
A salmon docent undergoes training through Kitsap County and Washington State University Extension to understand the current research in the area, current projects to rejuvenate the salmon population and can help educate people on the life cycle of the salmon and how important they are to our region.
